Technology Examples – What Everyone Should Know
There is no doubt that technological innovations have changed the way we live our lives and with that in mind, we are going to talk about 10 examples of technology, in various areas of human knowledge. In other words, in this article we will bring some examples where technology is present in the lives of many people.
First, we need to understand that technology is simply the way or method of doing things. For example, the invention of writing brought a new communication technology, which is writing itself. If before, human beings communicated only orally, with writing this changed.
There are countless examples of technology. Therefore, we will list only some of the most well-known examples that we can see almost every day. In other cases, certain technologies are not yet so popular – especially those that have emerged in the last 10 years.
Furthermore, certain types of technology only reach our country much later than they do in more developed countries. In other words, a certain innovative technology that appeared in the United States will most likely only reach Brazil after a few months or even years.
Below, we’ll take a look at some of the technologies that have stood out the most in recent years. This list is just a small sample of some of the technologies that have caught our attention due to their surprising innovation. Just to give you an example, we can mention the case of the drone – which has certainly been a huge success.
Examples of technological innovations
Bitcoin – Digital currencies
Bitcoin is a digital currency that works through a technology called Blockchain. Blockchain is a distributed digital database that uses software algorithms to record transaction histories anonymously and reliably. More generally, we could say that it is a digital ledger.
Technology is needed to record these events between multiple parties, and the information cannot be altered once entered. This technology has the potential to help create more secure and autonomous online commerce than ever before. It is certainly a promising innovation.
Sustainable Energy
Sustainable energy is the term given to technology capable of generating energy through sustainable sources, that is, those that are self-renewing or have inexhaustible sources. This is the case, for example, of solar energy generators or wind energy (using wind). Such sources, in theory, have no end.
This technology can provide electricity at a very low cost, or sometimes even close to zero. This is especially important for low-income populations, who will be able to count on a cheap source of energy that does not burden their budget. In addition, it promotes the preservation of nature.
Drones – Portable Aircraft
Drones come in a variety of sizes, some so small they can fit in the palm of your hand, while others are so large that they require a lot of space to take off, much like a helicopter. Some drones are remotely controlled, while others are even capable of autonomous driving.
Understanding how drones can impact your business is part of future-proofing. Drones are used for surveillance, sports, film, product delivery, and research. Drones are commonly used to film tours, excursions, and routes across diverse landscapes to capture special moments.
3D Printing
3D printing is a technology that uses innovative inks to create three-dimensional objects based on digital models. Different materials are layered on top of each other to create the object. Wood, glass and metals are some of the materials that can be used in 3D printing.
This technology could have the potential to transform small businesses or self-employed individuals working from home into true manufacturing industries. For example, someone with a certain amount of space in their home could have a 3D printer creating objects for retail sale.
Artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence is the ability introduced into computer systems to enable these computers to “learn”. However, what actually happens is that these software (applications) are equipped with certain specific instructions that give these applications the potential to develop.
In other words, with artificial intelligence technology it will be possible for a hospital computer system, for example, to identify that the patient who has just been admitted has already been there at another time in the past and, based on this, the application will be able to make certain suggestions for that patient.
Another very simple example is the application that can recognize risk levels when calculating the cost of car insurance. In other words, these applications equipped with artificial intelligence will evaluate the characteristics of the vehicle, its safety history where it has been driven, and so on.
Flexible Screens
Imagine having a cell phone that can be rolled up like a sheet of paper? Well, this is the innovation of flexible screen technology, which allows the construction of a type of display whose consistency is flexible and soft enough to be moved in such a way that it can be easily carried.
Flexible screens are already arriving on some models of computers and laptops. After that, the next step is to enter the world of smartphones and tablets, and from there, users of these devices will be able to have large screens that can be “rolled up” when necessary, thus reducing the space occupied.
Internet of Things
The Internet of Things is a very interesting technology and could also be called Internet of Things. For example, imagine a refrigerator that has an Internet connection and an LCD display. Then, it could recognize that a certain food item is missing and then make the purchase online.
Another example is smart home devices. Just to give you an example, imagine that you arrive home and a motion sensor detects that you have entered the house. After that, an app turns on the living room light and, depending on the room temperature, also turns on the air conditioning at the appropriate level.
Another example of the practical use of the Internet of Things is in vehicles. So, a car with GPS connected to the Internet can identify the best route to reach the destination considering the traffic at that moment, along with the shortest distance and, after that, calculate the distance and time spent.
Augmented Reality
Augmented reality is a technology that can provide a more expanded view of the reality of a given space or object. For example, imagine a car or aircraft assembly plant. Employees will be able to use augmented reality technology to “see the parts” from deeper and more clearly.
With augmented reality, it will be possible to operate equipment that has a large number of controls. So, imagine the number of buttons that exist in a room to control a hydroelectric plant. With augmented reality, these numerous buttons can be observed and used in a simpler way.
Virtual Reality
Virtual reality is probably already well-known. You may have seen “virtual tours” of decorated rooms in properties for sale. So, this is one example of virtual reality. Another example is Google Maps and the possibility of virtually visiting almost any place in the world.
Another classic example of the presence of virtual reality is in games. This technology has become very popular through virtual reality glasses, through which the player is taken into the game's scenario. Furthermore, we already see this same technology in flight simulators or for driver testing.
Robotics
Robotics technology has made it possible to perform certain tasks and complex activities in a simpler and safer way. You may have seen robotic arms in car assembly plants, assembling parts. Or you may have seen images of surgeons operating on their patients remotely.
These robotic devices have given humans the ability to perform difficult tasks that require a high level of precision more easily and with less risk, as long as the operators of these devices are properly trained. Ultimately, robots can perform a variety of functions.
Some robots have greater levels of autonomy, such as autonomous vehicles. Through software or applications, these vehicles can move from one point to another using a “navigation program”. This allows them to control their speed, avoid obstacles and, what’s more, follow traffic signs.
Final considerations
We have seen through these examples of technology that innovations never stop. Practically every year something new emerges, and sometimes technologies appear that are so surprising that they leave us astonished. Every technological innovation has the characteristic of changing the way we act in this world, and even how we see it.
